Two second half goals were enough for Tanzanian Premier League giants Young Africans SC to win the first leg of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup semi final clash against Marumo Gallants FC on Wednesday.

After a goalless first half at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, coach Nasreddine Nabi’s side returned hungry and scored two goals by Stephen Aziz Ki and substitute Bernard Morrison.

But before Young Africans found the net, the South African side looked very comfortable after recess and missed scoring chances through Katlego Otladisa and Ranga Chivaviro whose goal in the first half had been cancelled for offside.

Stephen Aziz Ki who had earlier had earlier failed to get his act together put Young Africans SC ahead when he slammed the ball in the net after 64 after Tuisila Kisinda’s cross.

with the clock ticking away with two added minutes Fiston Mayele provided a neat cross for Morrison to get the second goal for Young Africans.

It was all celebrating after the final whistle. But  would Young Africans SC coach Nasreddine Nabi says he was not happy despite the win. “Although we have won the match I am not happy because we missed so many scoring chances,” said Nabi.

The second semi final clash between ASEC Mimosas (Cote d’Ivoire) and USM Alger (Algeria) ended goalless. The return legs of the semi finals will be played on May 17th, 2023.
