Zanzibar, Tanzania book semi final slots in CECAFA U-15 Championship

Zanzibar and Tanzania have also booked semi final slots at the on-going CECAFA U-15 Boys Championship in Njeru, Uganda.

The hosts Uganda made it first to the semi final stage on Tuesday after winning their second Group A match.

On Wednesday Zanzibar and Tanzania also picked their second Group B wins to qualify. Zanzibar defeated Somalia 4-0 in the first match played on Wednesday at the FUFA Technical centre.

Somalia put up a good show in the early 40 minutes, but conceded in the 46th minute through Mohamed Nassor. Ten minutes later Saleh Mbarouk made it 2-0 for Zanzibar.

Later Somalia were awarded a penalty after a hard tackle in the box. Mohamed Mohamed stepped forward, but his penalty was saved by Zanzibar’s goalkeeper Mahir Amour. Lukman Omar and Hussein Mbegu added two more goals to ensure Zanzibar won by a comfortable margin.

Mohamed Mrishona Mohamed, the Zanzibar coach praised his team for the hard work and making it to the semi final. « We came here to try and win the trophy, and the hard work continues, » added the coach whose team beat Rwanda 3-0 in their opening match.

In the second match 10-man Tanzania defeated Rwanda 2-1. Peter Arbogasti netted for Tanzania in each half, while Patrick Niyongabo pulled one back for Rwanda after 90 minutes. Tanzania’s Feisal Juma was sent off with five minutes to the end of the match.

After a rest day on Thursday, two Group A matches will take place with Uganda facing Ethiopia, and South Sudan battling against bottom placed Djibouti
