Zanzibar prepares to host 2020 Mapinduzi Cup

The government of Zanzibar in conjuction with Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF) are in final preparations to host a successful 2020 Mapinduzi Cup. Eight teams from Zanzibar and Tanzania will compete in the tournament which takes place January 6-13th.

“We are preparing to have a very successful tournament,” said the General Secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Arts and Culture, Omar Hassan Kingi.

This year the organisers have not invited teams from Uganda and Kenya because of a busy Premier League schedule around that time.

Mtibwa Sugar FC will open the tournament with a Group B game against Chipukizi SC on January 6th, before defending champions Azam FC face Mlandege FC in the second match of the day.

While Azam FC who have won the Mapinduzi Cup in 2017, 2018 and 2019 will be out to try and retain the title, the likes of Simba SC and Young Africans Fc have also vowed to play their hearts out to win the trophy.

Tanzania giants Simba SC will start against Zanzibar’s Zimamoto SC in a Group B match on January 7th, while Young Africans face Jamhuri SC in the second game.

The semi finals of the tournament will be played on January 8-9th, while the final takes place January 13th.

Group A: Young Africans, Azam, Mlandege, Jamhuri

Group B: Simba SC, Mtibwa, Chipukizi, Zimamoto
