Who will win Cecafa U-15 Challenge Cup?
It’s action at the Asmara national Stadium this afternoon as the inaugural Cecafa U-15 Challenge Cup comes to a climax. The in-form Ugandan team that has won all their five matches in the competition will battle a well organized Kenyan team in the final. But before the final Burundi and Rwanda will face-off in classification match to determine who takes bronze.
To reach the final Kenya battled to a 1-1 draw against Rwanda, but eventually won 4-2 on penalties, while Uganda humbled Burundi 6-0 in a one sided match.
But the Kenyan coach Sagar Lakhani has made it clear that this is a Cup final and his boys are ready to play their hearts out. “We do respect the Ugandan team because they have won all their games and conceded no goal, but we are not scared about them,” added Lakhani.
The coach said against Uganda they must have a lot of discipline at the back and also make sure they take their chances. “We have studied the Ugandan team well and we shall go all out to try and win the Cup,” added the coach.
Although Kenya will miss dependable defender Rajab Yasin Umar who was sent off in the semi final, they will look to instrumental star player Kevin Wangaya Injehu who has netted four goals now, Gil Harel and skipper James Gachango Murage.
Uganda’s coach Jackson Magera has maintained that they are here to win. “I like the way my boys have mastered the tactics and that explains why we have won all our games. But Kenya is a good side and that is why they are in the final,” added the Ugandan coach who was also assistant of Uganda’s team at the U-17s Africa Cup of Nations this year in Tanzania.
Leading scorer of the tournament Abasi Kyeyune with seven goals together with Travis Mutyaba and Devis Ogwal are expected to play pivotal roles for the Ugandan team.
The tournament sponsored by FIFA will see the champions win and trophy and medals, while the second and third placed teams will also win medals. The top scorer, best goalkeeper and best player of the tournament will also be rewarded.
