The final group matches to decide which teams qualify for the semi final stage at the on-going U-20 TotalEnergies Afica Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers for the CECAFA Zone will be played today.

Uganda Hippos who are the only team so far to qualify for the knock out stage will face Ethiopia in the last Group B match at the Al Hilal Stadium in Khartoum.

The Hippos defeated Tanzania 2-0 in the opening Group B match, while Ethiopia fought to hold Tanzania 2-2 in the second group match.

Jackson Mayanja, Uganda Hippos coach told Cecafaonline that they are determined to go out and win so that they top the group. “We know Ethiopia play a highly passing game, but we are well prepared for them,” added Mayanja. Tanzania will also hope that Uganda can defeat Ethiopia by three goals or more without conceding if they are to make a mathematical chance of getting to the knock out stage..

With Group A apart from Djibouti who have no point after two matches, Burundi, Sudan and South Sudan can still book a place in the semi finals.

Burundi who lead the group with 4 points will face hosts Sudan this afternoon in what promises to be a thriller. Sudan also have 4 points, but with a lower goal difference.

Mubark Suliman Mohamed Slaih, the Sudan coach has made it clear that they are going all out for nothing but a win. “We know how important this match means to us if we hope to qualify for the semi final,” says the Sudan coach.

But Burundi’s coach Gustave Niyonkuru has also made it clear that he understands what it means to play a home team. “We cannot underrate the Sudan team, but we need to take our chances infront of goal and also defend well,” added Niyonkuru.

At the Kober Stadium third placed South Sudan who have picked two draws and scored no goals will take on Djibouti.

The best two teams from each group will qualify for the semi finals. The qualifiers will climax on November 11th with the finalists  qualifying for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 to be hosted by Egypt.
