Tanzania’s star player Mwanahamisi Omary Shurua has said they need to work hard as a team to win the COSAFA Women’s Championship 2021.

Twiga Stars started their campaign with a 3-0 win against Zimbabwe in a Group B match played at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

Mwanahamisi who plies her trade in Morocco with Shabab Atlas FC that she joined in March this year netted one of the goals.

“I am happy we started well in the opening match. But we need to double our efforts so that we make sure we win all our matches in the group before we get to the knock out stage. We have what it takes to win this trophy if we keep positive and continue to work hard,” added the stylish player.

Mwanahamisi who was voted MVP in the match against Zimbabwe told Cecafaonline that they do not underrate any team in the tournament, but must only concentrate on the matches they play. “Every team came here to win. But we must take every game as it comes,” she added.

Tanzania will face last year’s runners-up Botswana in the second Group B match on Saturday before battling South Sudan in the last group match on October 4th.

The tournament organized by COSAFA has attracted 12 teams with three guest sides South Sudan, Uganda and Tanzania from the CECAFA zone.

Group A: South Sudan, Malawi, Angola, Mozambique

Group B: Botswana, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, South Sudan

Group C: Zambia, Namibia, Uganda, Eswatini
