The head coach of South Sudan’s national team, Bright Star has said the next two Group G matches in the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers are very crucial.

South Sudan will face Congo Brazzaville on March 23rd at the Stade Alphone Masamba Debot Stadium in Brazzaville, and later coach Stefano Cusin’s team will host the same team four days later at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

After losing the first two matches to Mali and Gambia, Cusin has said his team must raise to the occasion and get good results in the two matches against Congo Brazzaville.

“These two games against Congo are very crucial for us if we need to have one small chance to qualify for AFCON. The preparations started last week with local players as we wait for foreign based players to arrive,” added Cusin.

He made it clear that the players must put in a lot of effort and be very focused because the next two matches are like finals to them.

Cusin also made it clear that the qualification of the junior teams for the U-17 AFCON and U-20 AFCON has inspired the senior team to keep working hard with a focus of qualifying too.
