Vipers SC to battle giants Mamelodi Sundowns FC in friendly match

Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC will play an international friendly match against one of Africa’s top teams Mamelodi Sundowns.

The international friendly match will take place on August 16th at the University of Pretoria ground in South Africa.

“In a build-up to the 2023/24 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League, Vipers Sports Club are scheduled to take on Mamelodi Sundowns in a significant international friendly,” said Vipers the Vipers SC spokesman Abdul Wasike.

The match will also help Vipers SC test some of the new players who have been signed and also prepare before they face Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy on August 20th in the first-leg encounter of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

Leonard Martins Neiva, Vipers SC’s new Brazilian coach says playing against Mamelodi Sundowns will come as a good test for his team. ” It is always good to prepare against very good teams because it gives us proper test of what to expect in the competition, ” added Neiva.

On Thursday Vipers SC’s new coach Neiva got a rude welcome to Ugandan football when his team lost 1-0 to Bidco FC in the season opener FUFA Super 8 tournament.

Last season Vipers SC reached the group stage of the TotalEnergies Caf Champions League, while the South African Premier League champions Mamelodi Sundowns reached the semi final stage.
