Kenyan international and Vihiga Queens FC first choice goalkeeper Lilian Awuor Onyango has joined French Women’s Division 1 side, ASL Soyaux-Charente.

The 24-year old Onyango was expected to travel to Paris yesterday aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight via Addis Ababa.

Mike Senelwa, the Vihiga Queens Chief Executive Officer confirmed that Onyango signed two and a half year contract before she traveled to France.

The goalkeeper helped the Kenyan side Vihiga Queens win the regional CECAFA Women’s Championships League to qualify for the inaugural TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League. She was voted Woman of the match in their opening 1-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns women team.

” The move is purely based on hard work and discipline and it’s also big motivation to the young footballers who are looking to be like her in future,” said the team Chief Executive Officer.

Esse Akida and Mwanahalima Adam are the other Kenyan women players who are plying their trade with clubs in Greece and Turkey respectively.
