Vihiga Queens crowned Kenya Women Premier League champions

Vihiga Queens have today been crowned champions of the 2022/2023 Kenya Women’s Premier League (FKF Women Premier League).

Coach Boniface Nyamu’s team put ice on the cake with a 2-1 victory against second placed Gaspo Women in the last match of the season played on Saturday.

Adrin Birungi gave Gaspo Women the lead, but Janet Moraa leveled matters to take the match into 1-1 at half time. After the interval Moraa picked her second goal to help Vihiga Queens pick maximum points.

Vihiga Queens who will again play in the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zonal qualifier finished the season with 52 points, while Gaspo Women followed closely with 48 points.

“It has been a very tough season, but I thank the players for working hard to retain the trophy. Our sights are firmly set on CECAFA Zonal qualifier,” said Coach Nyamu.

Vihiga Queens played in the inaugural 2021 CAF Women’s Champions League held in Egypt, but failed to make it through the group stage.
