URA, Azam FC, AS Kigali progress

Five teams from the CECAFA region have advanced to the second preliminary round of the 2021/2022 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.

Uganda’s URA FC defeated Ethiopian Coffee FC 3-1 in the second leg played at the Bahir Dar Stadium in Ethiopia.

Cromwell Rwothomio, Ashraf Mandela and skipper Shafik Kagimu netted the goals to propel URA FC to advance on a 5-2 goal aggregate. The Ugandan side will now face Al Masry (Egypt) in the next round next month.

Rwanda’s AS Kigali humbled Olympique de Missiri FC (Comoros) 6-0 in the return leg played in Kigali. Pierrot Kwizera, Ramadhan Miyibizi, Abubaker Lawal, Shaban Hussein, Dennis Rukundo and Abeddy Biramahire scored the goals. AS Kigali who advanced on a 8-1 aggregate will now face face DC Motema pembe (DR Congo).

Azam FC also progressed to the next level after a 1-0 win against Horseed FC (Somalia). The Tanzanian side progressed on a 3-1 goal aggregate to set up a date with Egypt’s Pyramids.

Sudan’s Al Ahly Merowe and Biashara United (Tanzania) also progressed to the second round after ejecting Atlabara Juba (South Sudan) and FC Dikhil (Djibouti) respectively.

Zanzibar’s Mafunzo SC were also eliminated 5-0 on aggregate to GD Interclude (Angola).

The second round of the preliminary round will be played next month.
