Striker Fazila Ikwaput netted a brace to help Lady Doves FC humble FAD FC (Djibouti) 5-0 as the CECAFA Zonal qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League kick-off in Nairobi this afternoon.

The Ugandan team started on a high at the Nyayo Stadium with Riticia Nabbossa tapping in the first goal after 16 minutes off a well taken Ikwaput cross

FAD FC restored to a defensive approach, but the Lady Doves continued to attack in number before Ikwaput made it 2-0 after 30 minutes.

The FAD FC captain Yousra Awad later fired out of target as the game went to half time.

In the second half the Uganda Women’s Premier League champions pushed forward as Norah Alupo nodded in past FAD FC goalkeeper Rokiatou Doumba to make it 3-0 after 53 minutes.

After 60 minutes an own goal by Hibo Abdi Abdillahi made it 4-0 for the Ugandan team before Ikwaput put the icing on the cake with a second on the day.

The Djibouti team tried to find a goal, but found the Lady Doves defence tight.

Fouad Said, the FAD FC coach said that it was not easy for his team to play on the grass surface since they play on artificial turf back in Djibouti. “This is good exposure for my team and although we lost the game, we are happy that CAF and CECAFA has organized a Champions League for women,” added the coach.

The Lady Doves coach Fred Musiime said he was happy with the win in the opening match. “This is a good boost and we need to remain focused in every match,” added a happy Musiime.

Lady Doves FC will play their second Group A match against Simba Queens (Tanzania) on August 31st.
