Uganda beat South Africa to win inaugural 2019 COSAFA Girls U-17 Championship

Uganda have stopped South Africa 2-1 to win the the inaugural 2019 COSAFA Girls U-17 Championship. Fauzia Najjemba scored after 58 minutes before O’Malley leveled matters for South Africa after 70 minutes at the Francois Xavier Stadium in Mauritius.

Skipper Juliet Nalukenge netted the winning goal for Uganda on 86 minutes. Uganda’s coach Ayub Khalifa said he is happy to win the title without losing a game.

“This is very good for our girls because winning this title means a lot,” added Khalifa who was only appointed a month ago.

To reach the final Uganda has humbled Botswana 12-0 in the semi final.

In the Group stage Uganda drew 1-1 against Zambia before they humbled hosts Mauritius 11-0 and picked another 20-0 win over Comoros.
