Uganda tops Cecafa region in latest FIFA rankings

Uganda are ranked top of the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) in the latest FIFA ranking. In the rankings released on Thursday at the FIFA headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland, Uganda moved a stop better to 79th with 1311 points.

Uganda who have qualified for the last two Total Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) have dominated the rankings in the region for over a year now. Kenya who are second in the region dropped by one place to 108 with 1195 points, while Sudan is 128th and third in Cecafa region with 1111 points.

South Sudan who ejected Seychelles in the preliminary stage to qualify for the Group stage of the 2021 Total Afcon qualifiers were the biggest movers by 11 places to 162 with 997 points.

“Slowly we shall work hard to try and improve football in South Sudan. We are happy that we have improved in the FIFA rankings. We shall continue to work hard,” said South Sudan Football Associations (SSFA) President, Francis Amin Michael.

Eritrea who are placed 206th remain the lowest ranked team in the Cecafa region.

Senegal who are placed 20th in the world are the best African ranked team with 1546 points, while Tunisia are 29th and Nigeria 35th. Belgium still tops the FIFA world ranking with 1755 points, while France are second and Brazil third.
