Uganda to host CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship
Uganda has been awarded to stage the CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship this year.
The decision was reached during the Annual General Assembly of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) held today at the Four Points By Sheraton Hotel in Arusha, Tanzania.
While the Assembly agreed that a criteria for members planning to host be drawn for the other six tournaments planned for the year, Uganda made it clear they were ready to host the Women’s Senior Championship.
Moses Hassim Magogo, President of the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) said since Burundi and Uganda had qualified from the Zone to play at the Women’s AFCON 2022 in Morocco, they were ready and willing to host the regional event which would help to polish the two teams.
The Assembly which was attended by all CECAFA members except Kenya accepted that Uganda hosts the Championship with the dates to be announced later.
Djibouti was meant to host the CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship last December, but pulled out because the national Stadium was undergoing renovation.
The other tournaments that are expected to be staged in the CECAFA Zone in 2022 include; AFCON U-17 qualifiers, AFCON U-20 qualifiers, CECAFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers, Pan African School qualifiers, CECAFA Kagame Cup and the CECAFA U-23 Challenge Cup.
