Uganda to face Rwanda in Paris 2024 Women’s Olympic Games qualifiers

The Uganda Crested Cranes have been drawn to face Rwanda in the first round of the Paris 2024 Women’s Olympic Games Football qualifiers.

Eighteen teams that will be involved in the first round were drawn on Tuesday Twenty five teams were drawn in Cairo, Egypt.

While Uganda Crested Cranes, the CECAFA Women’s Championship reigning champions have been drawn to face Rwanda, Ethiopia will battle Chad, and Tanzania take on Congo Brazzaville in the first round. The first-round matches to be played on a home and away basis are scheduled for July 10-18, 2023 ,

The seven highly ranked teams including TotalEnergies Women’s champions South Africa will join the qualifiers in the second round.

In-case the teams from the CECAFA region qualify for the next stage they will face tough opposition with the winner between Uganda and Rwanda facing Cameroon, while Ethiopia will battle Nigeria if they go past the first hurdle. The winner between Congo Brazzaville and Tanzania will take on Botswana in the second round with matches to be played between October 23-31, 2023.

The eight winners in the second round will progress to the third round (February 19-28, 2024), then the fourth round (April 1-9, 2024) will see teams battle for the four slots.
