Uganda taking good risk to host two CECAFA tournaments – Musonye

The Secretary General of the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) has thanked Uganda for taking a good risk to host two tournaments at the same time.

Uganda will host the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup December 7-19th, while the CECAFA U-17 Women’s Challenge Cup also takes place in the Eastern town of Njeru between December 9-17th.

Musonye told the media during a press conference at the headquarter of Uganda’s FA in Mengo that Uganda remains a power house in football development in the region.

“We thank FUFA for taking up the risk and the the government of Uganda for providing the security for the two tournaments,” added Musonye.

The Secretary General noted that no country in the region has ever hosted two tournaments at the same time in the history and added that Uganda has taken a worth risk of hosting over 500 guests in Kampala and Jinja.

In October Uganda hosted the CECAFA Boys U-20 Challenge Cup that was won by Tanzania.

Darius Mugoye, the second Uganda FA Vice President and chairman of the Local Organising Committee said FUFA are privileged to host such events.

The CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup kicks off on Saturday with Somalia facinf Djibouti, while Uganda battle Burundi in Group A matches. The tournament has attracted nine teams, while the CECAFA U-17 Women’s Challenge Cup has attracted six teams.

This year CECAFA has already managed to organize the Kagame Club Championship (Rwanda), U-15 Boys Challenge Cup (Eritrea), U-20 Boys Challenge Cup (Uganda) and the Senior Women’s Challenge Cup (Tanzania).
