Uganda stop Comoros in Beach Soccer AFCON qualifier

Uganda Sand Cranes picked a crucial 5-2 first leg win away to Comoros in the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2022 qualifier played on Sunday.

The match was meant to be played on Saturday, the the strong winds in Comoros forced the officials to push the day to the next day.

The hosts took a two goal lead through Ali Moussa and Djafer Soilni at the  Stade de Planete Plage in Moroni. But Brian Nkuubi pulled one back for the Uganda Sand Cranes before the end of the first period.

In the second period Nicholas Mwere made it 2-2 for Uganda, before Godfrey Lwesibawa, Mwere and goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige added more goals in the third period to give Uganda advantage before the return leg to be played on August 6th.

On Saturday CECAFA’s other representatives in the qualifiers lost 3-2 away to Malawi. Hosts Ghana also picked a 6-5 win against Egypt in the other qualifier match played.

Seven teams will qualify to join hosts Mozambique for the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations slated to take place October 21-30th. Senegal are the title holders.
