Uganda stop Botswana 12-0 to qualify for COSAFA Girls’ U-17 final
Uganda has humbled Botswana 12-0 in the semi final to qualify for the final of the COSAFA Girls U-17 Championship. Handled by coach Ayub Khalifa, the Ugandan team took a 6-0 lead at half time at the St. Francois Xavier Stadium in Mauritius.
Margret Kunihira opened the scoring after only 4 minutes before Juliet Nalukenge made it 2-0 after 6 minutes.
The first half ended with Kunihira, Nalukenge and Fauzia Najjemba all scoring two goals each.
Botswana’s team tried to fight back in the second half but failed to match the Ugandan Girls who continued to attack in numbers.
Nalukenge and Najjemba added one goal each, while Najjemba showed more hunger for goals netting four more goals.
“I am happy that after four matches we are unbeaten and made it to the final,” said Uganda’s coach Khalifa.
In the Group stage Uganda drew 1-1 against Zambia before they humbled hosts Mauritius 11-0 and picked another 20-0 win over Comoros.
Uganda, the only guest side at the tournament representing the Cecafa region will now face South Africa in the final. The South African team beat Zambia 2-1 in the second semi final match.
