Uganda maintains winning run in CECAFA U-17 Women’s Challenge Cup

Uganda registered her third straight win in the on-going 2019 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup on Friday. The home side humbled Eritrea 10-0 to keep their lead in the tournament being played on a round robin basis between the six teams.

Fauzia Najjemba netted a hat-trick, while Juliet Nalukenge scored two goals. Margaret Kunihira, Catherine Nagadya, Stella Musubika, Kevin Nakacwa and Sumaya Komutale also got their names on the score sheet.

“Our main target in this championship is to win the title. We watched Eritrea give hard time to favourites Kenya and we planned to play better than them,” said Uganda’s head coach Coach Ayub Khalifa.

Eritrea’s coach Mekonnen Zewde said Uganda was better than his team physically, mentally and technically.

The first match at the Fufa Technical Center in Njeru saw Burundi defeat Djibouti 8-0.

Ineza Bora netted four goals, while Lydia Kalenzo scored a hat-trick and Neem Nzohbonayo scored one.

Tanzania also registered a 3-1 win against Kenya. Thebea Aidano Munga, Joyce Meschak (p) and Aisha Masaka scored for Tanzania, while Kenya netted through Fassila Adhiambo.

On Sunday table leaders Uganda will take on Tanzania in what is expected to be a thriller. The other two games will see Eritrea face Djibouti and Burundi battle Kenya.
