Uganda humbles Djibouti 11-0 to lead CECAFA U-17 Women’s Challenge Cup

Hosts Uganda recorded their second win at the on-going CECAFA U-17 Women’s Challenge Cup in Njeru, Uganda on Wednesday. Fauzia Najjemba netted a hat-trick to help Uganda defeat Djibouti 11-0 at the Fufa Technical Centre in Njeru.

Three other players Juliet Nalukenge, Stella Musibika and Hadijah Nandago also scored two goals each, while Juliet Nakachwa, Magaret Kunihira and Kevin Nakacwa scored one each.

In the earlier games Burundi and Tanzania battled to a 3-3 draw, while Kenya and Eritrea also drew 1-1.

The FIFA sponsored tournament being played on a round robin basis now sees Uganda top the table with six points since they also won their opening match 4-0 against Burundi.

Kenya are second on the log with 4 points and a better goal difference that Tanzania who also have the same number of points.

Nicholas Musonye, the Secretary General of the East and central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) said he is pleased with the level of play among the young women. “They need such platforms to get more exposure,” he added.

The inaugural tournament has attracted Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, Eritrea and Djibouti.
