Uganda Crested Cranes suffered their second straight loss at the on-going TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2022 on Wednesday night.

The CECAFA regional giants lost 3-1 to hosts Morocco in a Group A match played at the Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.

Defender Sumaya Komuntale who netted Uganda’s goal was later sent off for a second bookable offence, while Rosella Ayyane and Ghizlane Chebbak converted a penalty each. Nesryne Elchad scored the other goal for the Atlas Lionesses.

But Uganda Crested Cranes head coach George William Lutalo has made it clear they still have a slim chance to make it to the knock out round. “We need to continue working hard so that we beat Burkina Faso in our last Group A match and hope that other results can work in our favour,” said the coach.

After losing 2-0 to Senegal and 3-1 to Morocco, Lutalo’s team are bottom of Group A. “We know the last game with Burkina Faso will be like a final because Burkina Faso will also want to win,” added the coach.

Senegal and Morocco became the first team to qualify for the knock out round. The Uganda Crested Cranes will play their last Group game on July 8th at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca.
