The head coach of Uganda Crested Cranes, George William Lutalo has said his team has picked vital lessons at the on-going TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2022 in Morocco.

Lutalo’s team exited the tournament yesterday after drawing 2-2 against Burkina Faso in their last Group A match played in Casablanca.

The draw meant that Uganda Crested Cranes finished bottom of the Group, while Morocco who beat Senegal 1-0 came top.

“It is unfortunate we failed to make it to the knock out stage of the tournament. But my young team has obviously picked a lot of lessons from this tournament which will make them become better players,” added Lutalo.

He said playing in a WAFCON tournament is a very good platform to get the best exposure for the players who still have many years to play for the national team. “Every match we played at the tournament has taught us something,” explained Lutalo.

The CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship 2022 winners lost their opening match 2-0 to Senegal, before going down 3-1 to hosts Morocco. Lutalo said they had a chance to win against Burkina Faso who were reduced by a player, but failed to take their chances. “This is a learning process for the players and we members of the technical bench,” added the coach.

The teams that have already booked places in the quarter finals include; Morocco, Senegal, South Africa, Zambia and Cameroon.
