Uganda Crested Cranes off to camp in Marrakech ahead of WAFCON 2022

The Uganda Crested Cranes team has this evening traveled to Marrakech, Morocco to camp ahead of the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2022.

George William Lutalo, the head coach told Cecafaonline that they team is in high spirits ahead of the WAFCON.

“The 10-days of camping in Marrakech and a few build-up matches will help us build more and get in shape for the tournament,” added Lutalo who guided the team to victory in the regional CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship on June 11th.

Uganda is placed in Group A alongside Burkina Faso, Senegal and hosts Morocco for the tournament that runs July 2 to 23rd.

Striker Fazila Ikwaput, Uganda’s top scorer in the Women’s League 2021/2022 said she is hungry to prove a point at the WAFCON. “I want to keep scoring goals even at the continental tournament,” added Ikwaput.

Uganda and Burundi are the two teams from the CECAFA region that qualified to play in the WAFCON 2022 that will feature 12 teams. Nigeria are the record winners of the WAFCON.
