U-20 AFCON: Uganda Hippos to face Burkina Faso in quarters

Uganda Hippos have qualified to face Burkina Faso at the quarter final stage at the on-going Total U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Mauritania.

The Hippos sealed their place after a 2-1 win against hosts Mauritania in their last Group A game few days ago, while Cameroon topped the group with a 100% winning run.

While the Hippos who beat Mozambique 2-0 and also lost 1-0 to Cameroon in the earlier matches, the other representatives from the CECAFA Zone, the Ngorongoro Stars of Tanzania bowed out.

The Tanzanian team started with a 4-0 defeat to Ghana, before battling to a 1-1 draw against Gambia. On Monday the Ngorongoro Stars lost their last group game 3-0 to Morocco.

Uganda Hippos, CECAFA’s remaining flag holders will now face in-form Burkina Faso on February 25th, the same day will see the Central African Republic take on Gambia in another quarter final match.

“We are happy to get to the knock out stage of this tournament. But we know Burkina Faso is a strong side and we shall have to be at our best,” said Uganda Hippos coach Morley Byekwaso.

Uganda Hippos will now face Tunisia at the semi-final stage, while Ghana take on Gambia with all matches to be played on March 1st.
