U-20 AFCON: Uganda falls, Tanzania back in action
Uganda Hippos suffered a 1-0 defeat to Cameroon on Wednesday in their second game at the on-going U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Mauritania.
The Hippos who won their opening Group A match 2-0 against Mozambique failed to find the net against a more physical Cameroonian side.
Sunday Jang Junior scored the lone goal for the Young Lions of Cameroon at the Olympic Stadium to send them to the quarter final stage after registering their second win in the Championship.
Cameroon coach Ousmanou Christophe said he was happy with performance of his team. “I think we were lucky to win against Uganda,” he added.
His counterpart the Ugandan coach Morley Byekwaso says although they lost the game, he was happy with the way his players responded against a strong Cameroon team. Uganda will need to win or at least a point in their last game against hosts Mauritania to qualify for the quarter finals.
Ngorongoro Heroes of Tanzania, the second representatives of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) will return to action on Friday evening against Gambia in a match they must win to revive their hopes of making it to the knock out stage.
Tanzania lost their opening Group C match 4-0 to Ghana, while Gambia fell 1-0 to Morocco.
