Sudan and Ethiopia will know their TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) group opponents on August 17th, 2021 when the draw is conducted.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced today that the draw for the 24 teams will be conducted on August 17th.

“CAF together with the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of Cameroon announce that the draw for the final phase of the 33rd edition of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, Cameroon 2021, will take place on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at the Yaounde Conference Centre, Cameroon,” says CAF.

Unlike during the 2019 AFCON when the CECAFA region was represented by three teams, this time only Sudan and Ethiopia will be part of Africa’s biggest football showpiece.

The TotalEnergies AFCON is slated to take place from January 9th to February 6th, 2022.

Sudan’s Desert Hawks had last featured in the AFCOn in 2012, while the Walias of Ethiopia last made their appearance at the big stage in 2013.

The 24 teams that will play at the Total Energies AFCON include; Sudan, Ethiopia, Cameroon (hosts), Algeria, Senegal, Tunisia, Nigeria, Morocco, Egypt, Ghana, Mali, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Gabon, Mauritania, Zimbabwe, Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone, Malawi, Comoros, Equatorial Guinea and Gambia
