Total Africa Cup of Nations 2021 dates announced

The Total Africa Cup of Nations 2021 will take place January 9 to February 6th, 2022 in Cameroon.

Sudan and Ethiopia qualified and will be the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) flag bearers at the tournament.

The CAF Executive Committee chaired by the President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe during video conference meeting held on March 30th unanimously approved the proposal for the competition to run January 9th to February 6th. The meeting which was also attended by the new General Secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba also picked June 25th, 2021 for the organization of the AFCON draw.

During the meeting, the General Secretary gave a report to the EXCO on the state of degradation of infrastructure in the Africa  which do not or no longer offer the guarantees and aptitudes to host CAF competitions.

It was agreed that the improvement of several infrastructures will be a priority for CAF and a detailed plan will be presented at a short term.

The 23 teams that have already qualified for the AFCON include; Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Comoros, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, Tunisia, Sudan and Zimbabwe. The last spot will be decided after the game between Benin and Sierra Leone.
