Foreign teams have started arriving in Uganda ahead of the CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship.

The regional tournament to attract eight CECAFA members will take place from June 1-11th at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.

Already the teams from Burundi, Rwanda, South Sudan, and Zanzibar have arrived ahead of the tournament. The team from Djibouti is expected to jet-in today, while Tanzania and Ethiopia will arrive on Tuesday.

Yussuf Mossi, the CECAFA Competitions Director made it clear that all COVID-19 protocols will be observed at the tournament. “The teams will be tested for COVID-19. We expect a very competitive tournament since most teams have had time to prepare,” added Mossi.

Uganda Crested Cranes and Burundi will use the tournament to prepare ahead of the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations to take place in Morocco in July, 2022.

Kenya who lifted the trophy in 2019 when the tournament was last held will not have the chance to defend. The Kenyan team cannot participate in the tournament because FIFA is yet to lift the suspension on the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).
