All the five foreign teams have arrived in Uganda ahead of the regional CECAFA Women’s U-20 Championship.

The tournament to be played on a round robin basis will take place at the FUFA technical Centre in Njeru from October 30th to November 9th.

Djibouti and the Eritrea team arrived first on an Ethiopian Airlines flight, before Burundi also arrived by road. The Ethiopian team arrived on Thursday afternoon and the Tanzania team, Tanzanite followed later in the evening.

Yusuf Mossi, the Competitions Director of the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) said it will be a great opportunity for each of the teams to play five matches.

“It will also help the teams of Uganda, Tanzania and Burundi that are still in contention for a place in the 2022 FIFA Women U-20 World Cup qualifiers,” added Mossi.

The six teams that will take part in the Championship include; Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea and Ethiopia. The other CECAFA members that did not enter teams include; Sudan, South Sudan, Zanzibar, Rwanda, Somalia and Kenya.

Action will start on Saturday with Tanzania facing Eritrea, while Djibouti take on Ethiopia, and hosts Uganda battle Burundi in what promises to be a thriller.
