Tanzania’s youngster Kelvin John makes debut for Belgium’s KRC Gent

Tanzania’s youngster Pius Kelvin John finally made his debut for KRC Gent yesterday in the 2021/2022 Belgian Pro League.

The 19-year old striker came on as a second half substitute to help KRC Gent humble Eupen 5-0 in a match played at the Cegeka Arena.

“I am happy to make my debut for the club,” said Kelvin John. His team KRC Gent are currently placed 8th on the log, while Union Saint Gilloise are top.

The young Tanzanian player joined KRC Gent last June after spending time with Brooke House Football Academy in Leicester. The Belgian team had to wait till he made 18 year to sign a professional contract.

Nicknamed ‘the Tanzanian Mbappe’ Kelvin John played in the 2018 AFCON U-17 event, 2021 AFCON U-20 event and was top scorer in the 2019 CECAFA U-20 Challenge Cup where he lead Tanzania to victory. He was also pre-selected for the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Last month he feature for the Tanzania national team during the two international matches against the Central African Republic and Sudan played in Dar es salaam.
