CAF WCL QUALIFIERS
Tanzania’s Simba Queens qualify for semis
Tanzania’s Simba Queens FC are the first team to qualify for the semi final stage at the on-going TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League 2022 qualifier for the CECAFA Zone.
Coach Sebastian Leonard Nkoma’s team booked their place after stopping Uganda’s She Corporate 2-0 in a Group B match played at the Azam Complex, Chamazi on Wednesday.
After dominating play from the start, Simba Queens took the lead through Vivian Aquino Corazone after 27 minutes. The Kenyan defender scored from a free kick few metres outside the box with the She Corporate goalkeeper Daphine Nyayenga failing to get firm grip of the shot.
Opa Clement Tukumbuke had a chance to increase Simba Queens’ lead after 31 minutes, but shot wide from close range. At the stroke of half time Phiona Nabbumba had the chance to level the score, but also missed the target.
In the second half She Corporate tried to push forward to try and get a goal, but found the Simba Queens defenders up to the task. Pambani Kuzoya increased Simba Queens’ lead with a fine finish after 62 minutes. The She Corporate defenders and goalkeeper failed to clear away a ball in the box giving Kuzoya room to finish with a low shot.
The two teams made some changes, but the home team continued to dominate play.
Sima Queens kick started their campaign with a 6-0 win against Djibouti’s Garde Republicaine FC, while She Corporate also won by the same score against Yei Joint Stars of South Africa.
Later today Yei Joint Stars FC will face Garde Republicaine FC in the second Group B match of the day.
