Tanzania’s skipper Ally Mbwana Samatta scored for Belgium’s Racing Gent in a 2-1 away defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday night in a UEFA Champions League group game. The home side Liverpool took an early lead through Georginio Wijnaldum at their Anfield Stadium.

But the Tanzanian star and one of Africa’s top strikers Samatta leveled matters after 41 minutes to give Racing Gent some hope. He met Bryan Heynen’s corner to head superbly near the post for the goal.

But Oxlade-Chamberlain, playing in a less familiar advanced role, restored the hosts’ advantage in the 53rd, collecting a neat pass from Egypt’s Muhamad Salah on the edge of the box and beating Genk keeper Gaetan Coucke with a low drive on the turn.

The win gives Liverpool nine points from four matches in Group E, while Genk sit bottom with one point.

Sematta will next week lead Taifa Stars in their opening group J game of the 2021 Total Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) against Equatorial Guinea on November 13th.
