Tanzania’s Masaka joins Brighton & Hove Albion

English side Brighton & Hove Albion Women’s Football Club have signed Tanzanian striker Aisha Masaka.

The 20-year old joins the England Women’s Super League side from BK Hacken in Sweden.

“We are delighted to announce the signing of striker Aisha Masaka from BK Hacken on undisclosed terms, subject to the usual regulatory processes,” said the English Club on their platform.

Masaka who has won 15 caps for Tanzania, scoring nine goals since making her debut in 2021 has said she can’t wait to get started at her new club. “I am so excited to join the Club,” said the former Young Africans Princess.

Zoe Johnson, the Brighton & Hove Albion managing director of women’s and girls’ football said they are really excited to welcome Aisha to Brighton. “She’s competed at a high and testing level in Sweden and represented Hacken in the Champions League.,” added Johnson.

He said Masaka is a physical striker who is dominant on the ball and a natural goalscorer. “We’re looking forward to welcoming her to Albion ahead of the new season,” added Johnson.

In her two seasons at BK Hacken, Masaka helped them finish second in the Swedish League and they reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League last season before losing to PSG.

Masaka becomes the first Tanzanian player to join a team in the England Women’s Super League. Some of the other Tanzania women professional football players include; Oppa Clement Tukumbuke (Besiktas, Turkey), Diana Lucas (Ame S.F.K, Turkey), Maimuna Kaimu (ZED FC, Egypt), Clara Luvanga (Al Nasi FC, Saudi Arabia), Juletha Singano (Juarez, Mexico) and Enekia Kasonga (Eastern Flames, Saudi Arabia)
