Tanzania have finished second at the 2021 COSAFA Beach Soccer Championship

Coach Boniface Pawasa’s team lost 3-1 to Mozambique in the final played this afternoon at Durban’s South Beach.

To reach the final Tanzania saw off Angola, while Mozambique ejected hosts South Africa.

Helio Mahota gave Mozambique the lead, before Abdulkagir Tabib leveled matters for Tanzania. But the Mozambique team who finished the Championship unbeaten added two more goals through Rachide Smith and Julio Manjate.

The Tanzanian team tried to push forward, but failed to score more goals. “This was a good tournament for us and I am happy we have got more exposure playing in this tournament,” said Pawasa. Tanzania’s Abdulkadir Tabib also finished among the top scorers with five goals.

Mozambique are the second team to lift the COSAFA Beach Soccer Championship after Madagascar won the inaugural event in Seychelles in 2015.
