Tanzania to battle Uganda Sand Cranes in Beach Soccer AFCON 2021

The Council of East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) representatives Tanzania and Uganda have been pitted in the same group for the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2021.

Tanzania and Uganda were placed in Group A together with Dr Congo and hosts Senegal during the draws conducted in Cairo, Egypt on Thursday.

The head of competitions at the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Khaled Nasser and assisted by Egypt’s captain of the Beach Soccer team Mohamed Fawzy conducted the draw for the competition which will take place May 23-29th.

While the hosts and defending champions Senegal will kick off the tournament against debutants DR Congo on May 23, Tanzania will face Uganda Sand Cranes in their opening match.

“My players will be ready for the tournament. We have a tough draw, but we know how we shall handle the matches,” says Uganda Sand Cranes head coach Salim Jamal Muwonge.

Group B has Egypt, Mozambique, Morocco and Seychelles who benefited after Madagascar pulled out of a qualifying match early this week.

Senegal beat Nigeria 6-1 in the final of the 2018 Beach Soccer AFCON held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

Group A: Senegal, DR Congo, Tanzania, Uganda

Group B: Egypt, Mozambique, Morocco, Seychelles
