Tanzania to face Egypt in Africa Cup of Nations build-up

The Tanzania national football team, Taifa Stars will face Egypt on January 7th, 2024 in a build-up match ahead of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Clifford Ndimbo, the spokesperson of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) confirmed to Cecafaonline that the team will camp in Egypt and later play a friendly match while there.

“The team will return from Zanzibar today and travel to camp in Egypt. The team will travel straight from Egypt to Cote d’Ivoire ready for the AFCON,” added Ndimbo.

Adel Amrouche, the Taifa Stars head coach is expected to use the camp in Egypt to prepare his team well ahead of the AFCON campaign that see them placed in a tricky Group F alongside 2022 FIFA World Cup semi- finalists Morocco, DR Congo and Zambia.

The AFCON 2023 which will bring together 24 teams will take place from January 13th to February 11th, 2024 in Cote d’Ivoire. Tanzania are the only team from the CECAFA Zone that qualified for the tournament.

Taifa stars will open their campaign against Morocco on January 17th, and later take on Zambia on January 21st. Coach Amrouche’s team will line-up against DR Congo in the last Group match on January 24th.
