Tanzania stop South Sudan to maintain winning form in Port Elizabeth

The Twiga Stars of Tanzania maintained their winning form stopping South Sudan 3-0 in their last Group B match at the on-going COSAFA Women’s Championship in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

Stumai Athuman netted a second half hat-trick for the Tanzanian team in a game played this afternoon at the Madibaz Stadium an the Nelson Mandela Bay.

The Twiga Stars kick started the campaign with a 3-0 win against Zimbabwe, before they stopped the 2020 runners-up Botswana 2-0 in their second match.

“I am glad that we have won all our group games and conceded no goals. We now have to plan for the semi final stage,” said Tanzania’s coach Bakari Nyundo Shime.

The South Sudan coach Shilene Margaret Booysen said although they lost all the three games, this has been a learning process for her players. “It is by playing in some of these tournaments that the players get exposed and get better,” added Booysen. .

In the second Group B match played at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Zimbabwe shocked Botswana 3-0.

Priviledge Mupeti gave Zimbabwe a first half lead after 42 minutes. In the second half skipper Emmaculate Msipa and Rudo Neshamba also got their names on the score sheet for Zimbabwe.

The win sends Zimbabwe to six points where they will now wait for all other group matches to be played to decide if they are the best second placed team to make it to the semi final stage.

Later this afternoon reigning champions South Africa will face Mozambique, while Angola take on Malawi in the last Group A matches.
