Tanzania stop Burundi in FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier

Tanzania picked a 3-2 win against Burundi on Saturday in the first leg match in the third round of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

Coach Bakari Shime’s team took the lead through Clara Luvanga after 9 minutes at the Chamazi Stadium.

Joyce Lema made it 2-0 after 15 minutes, before Estelle Gakima pulled one back for the Burundi side seven minutes later.

But before the break the Tanzanite increased their lead through Aisha Masaka after 44 minutes.

In the second half the Burundi team tried to fight back strongly and netted a second goal through Noela Izakoze after 56 minutes, The two teams continued to create several scoring chances, but failed to convert them.

On Friday other CECAFA teams Uganda beat South Africa 1-0 in Kampala, while Ethiopia picked a 3-1 away win to Botswana.

The return legs of the third round will be played between December 16-18th.
