The Taifa Stars of Tanzania have defeated Malawi 2-0 in an international friendly match played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam today.
John Raphael Bocco gave the home side the lead after 69 minutes before substitute Isreal Mwenda added the second goal off a free kick.
The Flames of Malawi who qualified for the Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be played in January next year also had Peter Banda miss two good scoring opportunities in the earlier half.
Taifa Stars coach Kim Poulsen said he was happy with the friendly match although he did not have a full squad. “It has been a good match for the players to try out several things,” added Poulsen who took over Etienne Ndayiragije about two months.
Tanzania’s captain Mbwana Samatta who features for Fenerbahce in Turkey and Wydad Casablanca’s Simon Msuva missed the game.
The two teams used the international friendly match to prepare for the forth coming FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers which kick off in September.

Tanzania are in Group J of the FIFA World Cup qualifier alongside DR Congo, Benin and Madagascar.
