Tanzania have qualified for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025.

The Ngorongoro Heroes fought from a goal down to beat Uganda Hippos 2-1 in the first semi-final of the Zonal CECAFA qualifiers at the KMC Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on Friday.

After a goalless first half, the 2022 winners returned to take a quick lead through captain Brian Toto.

The defender capitalized on a well taken free kick and was quick to tap in past the Tanzanian goalkeeper Anthony Mpemba.

But the home side continued to attack and the pressure paid off when they leveled matters after 71 minutes. In-form Sabri Kondo unleashed a hard shot that hit the post and bounced off the Ugandan goalkeeper Abdu Magada to enter the net.

The two sides continued to push forward but the hosts were more dominant in attack. After a 1-1 score in the allotted 90 minutes, the teams returned to the pitch for 30 minutes of extra time as the rules permit.

It was substitute Jammy Jammy who sent the local fans in celebration when he scored the winning goal for Tanzania to ensure they book a place in the TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025. ” I am very happy to score the winning for my team and we have qualified for AFCON U-20,” said Jammy Jammy after the match.

The second semi-final to decide which other team qualifies will see Kenya face Burundi later at the Azam Complex.
