Tanzania qualify for FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022

The Serengeti Girls of Tanzania have qualified for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022.

Tanzania ejected Cameroon 5-1 on aggregate on Sunday to join Nigeria and Morocco as the African representatives at the tournament slated for October 11-30th in India.

Neema Paul netted the only goal as Tanzania edged Cameroon 1-0 in the return leg played in Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.

Bakari Shime, the Tanzania Serengeti Girls coach praised his team for the hard work. “I am so happy because this team has worked hard and listened to instructions that have seen them make it to the World Cup,” added Shime.

The General Secretary of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), Wilfred Kidao told cecafaonline that qualification for the World Cup dos not only bring financial benefits to the Federation, but also has a spill over effect into other facets of life.

“For example qualification for this World Cup will pave way for our girls to play professional football because World Cup is the single biggest show piece and always attract big clubs to scout players,” explained Kidao.

The 16 teams that have qualified for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup include; Tanzania, Nigeria, Morocco, India, China, Japan, Canada, Mexico, United States, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, New Zealand, France, Germany and Spain.
