The Taifa Stars of Tanzania have picked a point away to DR Congo after a 1-1 draw in a Group J match of the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

Dieumerci Mbokani gave the home side the lead after 23 minutes at the TP Mazembe Stadium in Lubumbashi.

But the Tanzanian side continued to push back strongly before Simon Msuva leveled matters with a long hard short in the 36th minute.

The two teams continued to create several scoring opportunities, but lacked the finishing edge. Kim Poulsen, the Tanzania head coach said it was not easy to get a point in DR Congo.

“I thank my players for battling strongly and picking a valuable strong. We need to o back and prepare in the few days before we face Madagascar,” added Poulsen.

In an East African derby Kenya and Uganda Cranes settled for a goalless draw in a Group B match played at the Nyayo Stadium this afternoon.

The two teams did not really create several scoring opportunities with Abdallah Hassan and Micheal Olunga wasting some for Kenya, while skipper Emmanuel Okwi also had his shot miss the target.

However, Enok Walusimbi replaced injured midfielder Halid Lwaliwa early in the game for Uganda.

Youngster Bobosi Byaruhanga who played the entire 90 minutes also had a chance, that Kenya’s goalkeeper Ian Otieno picked.

Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee the Kenyan coach said the draw was good enough since facing Uganda is always not easy. “We need to build on from here and prepare for the nest match away to Rwanda,” added Mulee.

The Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic praised his players for the good fighting spirit. “Yes we have positives from the game, but we must also improve in certain areas,” added Sredojevic whose team will host Mali next week in Kampala. Mali beat Rwanda 1-0 in the first Group B match played on Wednesday.
