Tanzania humble Comoros in COSAFA event

Tanzania have made a winning start at the on-going COSAFA Women’s Championship 2022.

The defending champions Twiga Stars humbled Comoros 3-0 in a Group C match played this afternoon at the Madibaz Stadium in Port Elizaberth, South Africa.

Donisia Minja netted the opening goal for Tanzania after 13 minutes. Maltoufa Mchangama also came close to level matters for Comoros after 23 minutes, but her shot missed the target by inches.

Enekia Lunyamila Kasonga made it 2-0 for Tanzania after 41 minutes. After the interval the Comoros team tried to push players forward to find goals, but the Tanzania defenders stood firm. Kasonga netted her second goal of  the day after 52 minutes.

Bakari Shime Nyundo, the Twiga Stars head coach thanked his players for the job well done. “We played well and I am happy that we managed to keep a clean sheet,” added Nyundo.

The second Group C match saw Botswana and Malawi settle for a 1-1 draw. Twiga Stars are now top of Group C with three points, while Botswana and Malawi have a points each, and Comoros are bottom.

In Group A matches played on August 31st Mozambique stopped Mauritius 5-0, while South Africa beat Angola 3-0. On Thursday Lesotho defeated Eswatini 3-0, and Zambia picked a 2-0 win against Namibia in Group B matches.
