Taifa Stars and Djibouti have progressed to the second round of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championships (CHAN) 2022 qualifiers

Tanzania saw off Somalia 2-1 in the second leg of the first round played this afternoon at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam. The win saw coach Kim Poulsen’s team qualify on a 3-1 goal aggregate.

Abdul Suleiman gave Taifa Stars the lead after 34 minutes before Farhaan Mohamed made it 1-1 after 48 minutes. It was Dickson Job who netted Tanzania’s second goal in the 64th minute.

Meanwhile, Djibouti also qualified for the second round after seeing off Burundi on Friday in Dar es Salaam. After losing the first leg 2-1, Djibouti also won the second leg by the same margin and went on to win on penalties 4-2 in penalties

Tanzania will now face Uganda Cranes in the second round next month, while Djibouti will take on Sudan and Ethiopia battle Rwanda.

Cote de Ivoire will host the CHAN 2022 tournament to be played in January 2023.
