2023 AFCON qualifiers
Taifa Stars Coach summons squad ahead of AFCON qualifier ties against Uganda
The newly appointed coach of the Tanzania’s Taifa Stars has today named a provisional of 31 players ahead of two Group F matches against Uganda in the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Adel Amrouche who was named head coach earlier this month named the team today ahead of the two back-to-back matches against Uganda.
Uganda will host Taifa Stars on March 24th in a match which will be played in Egypt since Uganda have not Stadium approved by CAF to host the AFCON qualifiers. Tanzania will later host the Uganda Cranes on March 28th at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Amrouche has kept faith in skipper Mbwana Samata who features for KRC Genk in Belgium, while Simon Msuva who plies his trade in Saudi Arabia is also part of the team.
“We need to work hard as a team and prepare well and also call upon our fans to support the team. It will be team work for us to be able to achieve the results we want,” added the former head coach of the Kenya national team.
Taifa Stars and Uganda Cranes each have 1 point and same number of goals scored and conceded after two matches played by each team. Tanzania picked a point away from Niger after a 1-1 draw in their opening match of the campaign, while Uganda lost 2-0 away to Algeria.
In their second matches Uganda hosted Niger and drew 1-1, while Tanzania suffered a 2-0 defeat to the Desert Fennecs of Algeria.
