Sudan’s Al-Hilal kick start Total CAF Champions Group stage campaign

The Council of East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) representatives Al- Hilal will start their Total CAF Champions League Group campaign this evening with a home game against FC Platinum. The Sudan Premier League side will host the Zimbabwe side in a Group B match at their Al-Hilal Stadium in Omdurman.

Al-Hilal will be CECAFA’s only representatives in the group stage in the Total CAF Champions League after all the other teams failed to qualify even for the group stage of the Total CAF Confederations Cup.

Al-Hilal will look to some of their stars like goalkeeper Salim Magoola from Uganda and midfielder Mohamed Moussa Dai who scored in the game against Enyimba that saw them qualify for the group stage.

The other Group B match will see record Champions League champions Al-Ahly play away to Etoile du Sahel at the Stade Olympique de Rades, Rades.

Sixteen teams at battling in the group stage with the best two in each group making it to the quarter final stage.

The winners of the 2019-2020 Total CAF Champions League will qualify for the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup to be played in Qatar. They will also earn the right to play against the winners of the 2019- 2020 Total CAF Confederation Cup winners.
