Sudan, Uganda storm Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup knock out stage

Sudan and Uganda Hippos have qualified for the quarter finals from Group A at the on-going Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup. The Sudan team drew 3-3 with Eritrea at the Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu on Monday to keep their lead on the table with four points.

Sudan scored through Mohamed Abbas Namir, Shihab Eldeen Siddiq Abdalrahman and a penalty by Musab Kurdman, while Eritrea got their goals through Mewael Tesfai Yosief, Ali Suleiman Ibrahim and a penalty by Micheal Robel Teklem.

Sudan who beat Djibouti 4-0 in the first game qualift for the knock out stage before they face Uganda in the last Group A match on Wednesday.

In the second Group A game Coach Morley Byekwaso made two changes on the Uganda Hippos team that eventually stopped Djibouti 5-1 to also book a place in the knock out stage.

A brace by Steven Sserwadda and one by Ivan Bogere gave Uganda Hippos a 3-0 half time lead. Djibouti pulled one back through Kalid Osman Elmi after 82 minutes to make it 3-1 before Isma Mugulusi and Justine Opiro netted two more goals for the home side.

“I am happy that today we were sharp at goal and scored five. “We need to keep working hard ahead of the other games in the tournament,” said Uganda Hippos coach Morley Byekwaso after the game.

The last Group A matches will be played on Wednesday with Eritrea facing Djibouti, before Uganda battle Sudan.
