Sudan team jets-in for Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup in Uganda

The Sudan U-20 team arrived in Uganda on Tuesday ahead of the regional Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup. Sudan joins Djibouti who arrived last week and are already in the northern district of Gulu.

The Council of East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) has adjusted the fixtures ahead of the start of the Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup.

“We are happy with the facilities Uganda is providing and we expect a very competitive tournament,” said Nicholas Musonye, the Cecafa Secretary General.

He also announced that fixture has been adjusted on technical grounds with three matches to take place on every match day at the Fufa technical centre in Njeru in the group stage.

Sudan and Djibouti will kick start the tournament with the opening match on September 21st at the Pece War Memorial Stadium, before Uganda face Eritrea in the second game of the day.

The tournament which will attract 11 teams will run September 21st to October 5th in Gulu and at the Fufa Technical Centre in Njeru.

According to the adjusted fixture three games will take place on September 22nd with Kenya taking on Zanzibar, while Ethiopia battle Tanzania in Group B matches. Burundi will also take on South Sudan in a Group C tie on the same day.

The group stage will climax on September 26th before the quarter finals are played between September 29-30.

The semi finals will take place September 2 and the final and play-off for third place on October 5th. The tournament is sponsored by FIFA.
