Sudan suffer second defeat in FIFA Arab Cup 2021

CECAFA representatives Sudan suffered a 5-0 defeat to Egypt on Saturday at the on-going FIFA Arab Cup 2021 in Qatar.

The win against a 9-man Sudan team at the Stadium 974, previously known as Ras Abu Aboud Stadium saw Egypt qualify for the quarter finals.

Sudan who lost their opening Group D match 4-0 to Algeria failed to match the Egyptian team from the start of the game to the finish. The CECAFA representatives had two players two players Yaser Muzmel and Fariz Abdalla sent-off for rough play.

Ahmed Refaat gave Egypt the lead after 4 minutes when he finished off his earlier free-kick.  

Egypt made it 2-0 after Ahmed Ahmed Zizo converted a penalty after 12 minutes. Omar Kamal had been brought down in the box.

The Sudan team tried to reorganize themselves, but failed to break through the Egyptian defending line. Mahmoud Hamdy scored after 31 minutes to make sure Egypt took a 3-0 half time lead.

In the second half Hussein Faisal and Mohamed Sherif added two more goals for Egypt. Sudan head coach Hubert Velud said it became so hard to face a strong Egyptian side when two players had been sent off.

Sudan who are also using the FIFA Arab Cup to prepare for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will play their last Group D match against Lebanon on December 7th.

Besides Egypt, the other teams that have already qualified for the quarter  final stage include; Qatar, Algeria, Morocco and United Arab Emirates.
